The Internet: The Communication and Media Platform of this Millenium

The Internet started out in the second half of the last century as a distributed communications platform being developed by the military. The idea was to use a network that could route information even if one or more nodes of the networks was taken out for whatever reason. Now with Broadband Internet connections becoming more and more usual - the Internet is becoming ever more attractive as a channel of commerce for the consumer.
